Prenatal Massage in South Lake Tahoe: What to Expect

Pregnancy brings profound changes to the body — and not all of them comfortable. Prenatal massage, when performed by a trained therapist, offers real relief from some of the most common discomforts of pregnancy: low back pain, hip tension, swollen legs and ankles, sleep disruption, and stress.

At Summit Bodywork, prenatal massage sessions are tailored specifically to the trimester you're in and what your body needs most that day.

Is Prenatal Massage Safe?

Yes — when performed by a therapist with proper training, prenatal massage is considered safe throughout pregnancy. Caylea has worked with countless women during pregnancy at every stage, and understands the anatomical changes, positioning requirements, and pressure considerations unique to each trimester.

What Makes Prenatal Massage Different?

Several things set a proper prenatal session apart from a standard massage:

Positioning. You won't lie face-down. Most prenatal massage is performed side-lying, supported by pillows, or in a semi-reclined position. This keeps pressure off the uterus and vena cava (the large vein that carries blood from your lower body to your heart).

Pressure and technique. Certain areas require modified pressure during pregnancy — particularly the lower legs, ankles, and specific acupressure points that are contraindicated. A trained prenatal therapist knows where to be cautious and why.

Focus areas. The hips, lower back, sacrum, and upper back tend to carry the most tension during pregnancy. We also address the feet, calves, and shoulders — areas that shift significantly as posture changes with a growing belly.

What Clients Notice After a Session

Most clients leave feeling a significant reduction in the low back and hip tension that builds up between visits. Many also notice improved sleep the night following a session, reduced swelling in the legs and feet, and a general sense of calm that carries into the following days.

Prenatal massage isn't a luxury. It's a legitimate part of managing the physical demands of pregnancy.
